QUANTITIES OF GRASS SEED
QUANTITIES The quantity of seed to use is somewhat
of a problem, but it is wise to be generous.
It costs enough, but at that seed is cheaper
than doing the job over, which may be necessary
if you get a poor stand of grass. Patching
the bare places never seems to work out very
well. Most seed catalogues call for either a
quart or a pound (about the same quantity) for
an area of 225 square feet. The writers use twice
that amount. In this way quick results are secured
and the grass is so thick that weeds haven't
a chance of getting established. Of course
on large lawns to be seen only from a distance
it is not so important to have the grass thick
and weedless. Here use at least five bushels
of seed to the acre, more if you can afford it.
In planting Bent stolons use 100 square feet
of stolons to 800 square feet of area to be covered. GRASS
