UTILITIES
UTILITIES All other pipe lines should be installed
at this time also, to avoid digging up
the lawn later. If possible, provide hydrants
to water the garden and lawn at such frequent
intervals that 50 feet of hose will reach
any point; better yet, an underground automatic
watering or irrigation system may be provided.
These systems are highly satisfactory and
are really the only thorough way to combat
the periodic droughts with which an otherwise
beneficent Providence has seen fit to visit
us. Pipes for such installations, and in
fact for all garden service, need be put
only a few inches underground, for the
whole system is drained in cold weather.
And don't forget to "lay
on," as the
English say, water to the garden pool,
and to provide drainage for it. Electric
light and telephone cables to the house
should be buried whenever possible, for
they are always unsightly when carried
overhead. Nowadays, too, no garden is complete
without illumination. Provide electric
cables and waterproof outlet boxes now
for this purpose. learn about topsoiling...
